2005 Assembly
April
16, 2005
United under
the Theme, Growing This
Church Together: Marked with the Cross of Christ Forever,
voting members from the Minneapolis Synod gathered at Shepherd
of the
Lake
Lutheran
Church, Prior
Lake on Saturday, April 16 for worship, business and fellowship.
Each of the four plenary sessions’ opening song, as well as
the midday Service of Holy Communion, and closing prayer service
were taken from the ELCA’s Renewing Worship materials. Music
groups from Shepherd of the Lake and Lord of Life, Maple Grove
led the plenary and closing prayer service music. The Augsburg
Choir, the “Wholly Horns” Ensemble from
Transfiguration
Lutheran
Church, Bloomington, and Bryon Dockter, Director of Liturgical Arts at Shepherd of
the Lake
provided wonderful musical leadership for our midday worship.
The Assembly focus on hunger resulted in 3,000 pounds of food
collected for Second Harvest and $8,066.40 in offerings for
Lutheran World Relief and Community Emergency Resource. All
leftover food from the assembly breaks was donated to the local Prior
Lake
food shelf.
As part of communicating the mission of the synod to our
congregations, every congregation attending the Assembly
received a copy of all the videos shown throughout the day.
Those congregations not represented will receive a copy of the
videos in the mail. Our hope is that every congregation will
creatively use these videos to help their members become
familiar with and engage in the greater mission goals of the
Minneapolis Area Synod.
Special thanks to Shepherd of the
Lake
Lutheran
Church
in Prior
Lake
for hosting the 2005 Synod Assembly. Over 80 volunteers from
Shepherd of the Lake helped greet participants, distribute
registration materials, provided parking direction, did all the
distribution of food for breaks and meals, and helped provide a
welcoming environment for the voting members and visitors.
