Seminary of the Streets

A Collaboration Between the Minneapolis Area Synod and Faith in the City

March Session
Hmong Ministry and Life
March 8, 5-8 p.m., Luther Memorial, 3751 sheridan Ave N, Minneapolis
Pastor Bee Vang and lay Hmong leaders from Luther Memorial will help us explore a little of what it is like for Hmong refugees who, if they convert to Christianity, must leave behind parts of their culture. Participants will hear personal stories in small groups with Luther Memorial's Hmong members, including the strong young leaders who are youth and young adults.

How does a congregation go about sharing the Gospel of Jesus with people for whom Christianity is a "foreign" concept? How do whole families come asking for baptism together? What role does culture play in the Gospel, and what are traditions you would give up to become a Christian?

Hmong food will be provided as our no cost meal this evening; your early RSVP helps us to estimate for food and seating capacity. Street parking is available all around Luther Memorial, which is located in a residential neighborhood. Register online>

What is Seminary of the Streets?

  • A connecting point for members of urban and suburban Lutheran churches in the Twin Cities - going from stranger to neighbor
  • Discussion and experiential learning so we can wonder together: "How does this topic translate to my context?"
  • A new GPS, re-orienting us to what God is up to in our lives and through the communities of which we are a part

This is a joint venture between Minneapolis Area Synod leaders, Faith in the City, and the people in the pews to create awareness, and provide a series of educational, service and relational opportunities for you—members of Minneapolis Area and  Saint Paul Area Synod congregations.

The Seminary of the Streets will be "college-like" with learning in the classroom, a curriculum, homework and service opportunities. Attending the sessions will help you discover what your gifts are. The faculty will be leaders in our synod, and the classrooms will be in the congregations where we worship.
