Water: It is splattered in daily headlines across the globe.

Water: It is abundant and scarce, healing and sustaining, flooded and privatized. It is a source of new life in our baptism.

Water: Our young people hear about it nearly every day. As people of faith it is time for us to dig a deeper well of understanding about God's precious gift of water.

Help your students be part of the larger church alongside thousands of other ELCA youth! This event is the largest local event that the synods undertake and your presence matters! It is geared toward confirmation age youth and also welcomes leaders, pastors and high school youth! Registration will be available soon.

To quench your thirst…

Diving deeper: Pre event curriculum is provided for your small groups and will be available here beginning September 1.

Our common well: Pre-events about “Our Common Well” are being planned throughout the Twin Cities to help raise awareness about water and to unite our faithful efforts to insure that all people have access to safe water. Please join us for the first gathering at Minnehaha Falls on Tuesday, August 11 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Be replenished through worship, prayer and conversation around God’s gift of water and our role in protecting it. Bring a lunch and a cup to be filled. Water will be provided. Do you have an idea for a pre-event as a gift of Our Common Well? Let us know!

Drop by drop:
Challenge your youth to lead your congregation in limiting or ending use of disposable water bottles. Was God’s gift of water meant to be horded, privatized, sold for profit in potentially toxic containers of 30 million bottles per day, each taking 1,000 years to biodegrade? YOU can make a difference drop by drop, bottle by bottle. Or perhaps your group would like to sponsor a well so others might have access to safe water? (Opportunities will be available in connection with our African companion synods.) Does your group have great water stewardship ideas to share with others in the Twin Cities? Each droplet of precious water helps create the great oceans. Your “droplet” matters!

Photo bucket: As youth groups go on their trips this summer, please encourage them to take digital photos of times when they experienced God’s gift of water. Was it in being thirsty after a mountain climb? Was it in the pristine waters of a canoe trip or the cleaning of a creek side? Was it in a mission trip to a country where water sanitation and scarcity are major issues? We would love to share student photos and thoughts about water on the big screen at the November 4 event!

Sponsored by the Minneapolis Area and Saint Paul Area Synods.
