From the Interim Bishop
Meet Interim Bishop Glenn Nycklemoe. He started at the synod office on August 1, and will lead us into the bishop election in February of 2012.

Mission Support Update
Get an update on where we are in receiving mission support from congregations from our director of stewardship and development, Terri Endres, DM. She also gives us the Top Ten Stewardship Verses compiled at last summer's Rethinking Stewardship Conference.

NETworking to Prevent Malaria
Nets have understandably become very symbolic of Our Malaria Work. They are visual, can be experienced, and their efficacy is apparent. “Nets” also make for great puns, as this article indicates. However, nets are only a small part of the efforts to prevent malaria among our companions in Africa.

This Summer is the Third Year of Summer Lunch Bunch at Peace Lutheran Church
The Summer Lunch Bunch program at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids, now offers free bag lunches to all adults and children. Summer Lunch Bunch is a partnership between Peace Lutheran Church, Anoka-Hennepin, the Minnesota Department of Education and the USDA. (Link goes to abcnewspapers.com where the article appeared)

Tenth anniversary of September 11 attacks
As the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States approaches, the Rev. Mark Hanson, presiding bishop, invites members to reach out to ecumenical partners, as well as Muslim and Jewish partners, in planning commemorations.

Check Out the August Issue of The Lutheran
Get Some Rest. Kick back this summer and think about slowing down—even stopping—to give your soul a rest. Look to the August issue of The Lutheran for help. In “Sabbath,” take a look at “being, having and doing enough.” Get advice on slowing down with “Six steps to sufficiency.” And learn how “Emmaus walks” helped a family become aware of what God has done and is doing in their lives. To help your discussion, a study guide by Robert Blezard, an ELCA pastor in Pennsylvania, is available in the print edition and at www.thelutheran.org  (free to print and Web subscribers; click on “study guides”).
