New Year’s Eve Gatherings:
December 31

Many veterans struggle with sobriety but want to celebrate the holidays with everyone else. Consider hosting an alcohol-free New Year’s Eve event at the church or in a home.

Purpose

  • Provide an alcohol-free, festive social gathering for veterans and their families.
  • Reinforce connections between events of the past and the present—and good intentions for the future.

Process

  • Gather for a brief meditation with time for remembering the past, those departed or far away, and for offering reflection on present realities and future hopes and affirmations.
  • Allow time for each to express appreciation for those who have sacrificed on our behalf and especially for those who continue to struggle with the consequences of war.
  • Share in the preparation of food and participate together in activities to usher in the New Year.
