The
Reverend
Craig E. Johnson, Bishop
Minneapolis
Area Synod, ELCA
The Rev. Craig
Johnson, is the Bishop of the Minneapolis Area Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He was elected to this
position in June 2001 and re-elected on June 1, 2007.
Born in St.
Croix Falls, Wis., and raised in Chisago City, Minn., Johnson is
a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, where he
majored in Business Administration. He did his M.Div studies at
Northwestern Theological Seminary, Minneapolis (now Luther
Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.), and graduated in 1973. He was also
ordained that same year and from 1973 to 1996, Johnson served as
pastor at Nativity Lutheran Church, Shreveport, La.; Mount
Olivet Lutheran Church, Minneapolis; and Transfiguration
Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Minn.
He has
previously served on the ELCA Division for Colleges and
Universities Committee, and Sacramental Practices Task Force. He
served on the Executive Committee of the Minnesota Council of
Churches and the Augsburg College Board of Regents. For Gustavus
Adolphus College, he was on the Board of Trustees and Executive
Committee, and Association of Congregations Board. He has also
been on the Cathedral of the Pines Camp Board.
He currently
serves on the ELCA Conference of Bishops; Making a World of
Difference Leadership Team; Minnesota Council of Churches Board
of Trustees and the Foundation Executive Committee; the Lutheran
Social Service of Minnesota Board and the Executive Committee;
Faith in the City Governing Group; and the ELCA Program Unit for
Vocation and Education.
Johnson is the
author of The Mighty Acts of God – A Survey of the Bible
(Augsburg, 1991). He has led the Minneapolis Area Synod into
a comprehensive mission strategy entitled, "Making A World of
Difference."
Craig and his
wife Cindy have three children, Nicholas, Laura, and Kyle, and
they live in Bloomington, Minn., and are members of Mount Olivet
Lutheran Church in Minneapolis,
The
Rev. David Wangaard,
Bishops Associate
Minneapolis
Area Synod, ELCA
The
Rev. David Wangaard serves as Bishops Associate for Urban and
Multicultural Ministry of the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical
Lutheran
Church
in America.
David
is married to Rev. Susan Tjornehoj and has a 13 year old
daughter Ingrid.
Prior
to his call in the Minneapolis Area Synod, David served as
Pastor of
Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill, St. Paul, Minnesota

The
Rev. Heather Hammond, Bishops Associate
Minneapolis
Area Synod, ELCA
The
Rev. Heather Hammond serves as Bishop's Associate in the
Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical
Lutheran
Church
in
America, a post she has held since April
2000.
Pastor Hammond was educated at Luther Theological Seminary,
St. Paul,
MN;
Oxford
University
in
Oxford,
England; and St.
Olaf
College,
Northfield,
MN . At present she is
pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological
Seminary, Princeton, N.J.
Pastor Hammond has served parish calls in LaCrosse, Wisconsin ;
Knox, Pennsylvania; and St. Louis
Park, MN. In 1998 she was
named Senior Editor for Adult Education in the ELCAs
denominational publishing house, a post she held until joining
the synod staff where her primary areas of responsibility
include Candidacy and Stewardship, in addition to caring for the
leaders of more than 40 congregations.
Pastor Hammond lives in St. Louis Park, MN with
her children Annelise and Marcus.
Jo Mueller, Associate in Ministry
Youth and Family Ministry Coordinator
Minneapolis
Area Synod, ELCA
Jo
Mueller, Associate in Ministry, serves as the Youth & Family
Ministry Coordinator for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Jo welcomes
opportunities to build relationships, develop
partnerships, and lend support to children, youth, and
family ministers in our synod, and those they serve.
Jo
received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Forestry with an
emphasis in conservation from Iowa State University, followed by
work with various park agencies. Jo began her second career in
ministry in 1990, and pursued her AiM degree through Grandview
College and the Center for Youth Ministries at Wartburg
Seminary. She served for seven years at Peace Lutheran
church in Pella, Iowa and nearly two years at Family
of Christ in Chanhassen. She has been on staff at the
synod office since the fall of 1997.
Jo
and her husband Dale live in Chanhassen and are members of
Family of Christ Lutheran Church. They enjoy living within a few
short miles of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, where they are
frequent visitors. They have two sons: Christopher is a
webmaster and graphic artist for a non-profit agency in
Washington D.C. and Nathan is a junior studying biology and
environmental policy at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Jo
continues her interests in environmental issues and care of
creation, and enjoys serving on the Chanhassen Environmental
Commission.
Glenndy
Ose, Bishop's Associate
Minneapolis Area Synod, ELCA
Glenndy Ose serves as Bishop's Associate for Rostered
Ministries in the Minneapolis Area Synod of the ELCA, a position
she has held since December, 2001. Prior to that, she served on
the staff of the Saint Paul Area Synod.
Prior to
synodical service, Ms. Ose was on the staff of the ELCA
churchwide organization, first as associate director of the
Department for Information Technology and then as associate
director of the Department for Synodical Relations. She has also
been on the staff of the former
American
Lutheran
Church
and Augsburg Publishing House (now Augsburg Fortress Publishers).
Ms.
Ose has a
bachelor's degree from
Oral Roberts
University
in
Tulsa,
OK
and is a M.Div. student at Luther Seminary in St. Paul. She has also done coursework at the Lutheran School of Theology
at
Chicago
.
Kris
Perry, DM, Companion Synod Coordinator
Minneapolis Area Synod, ELCA
Kris Perry is
Companion Synod Coordinator for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the
ELCA. She will be working with the Global Outreach Team to
coordinate relationships, projects, and travel. She is available
to speak to congregations in in adult forums or other events about
our companion synods, Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria and the
Leipzig District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxony,
Germany.
Perry has more
than 25 years of congregational and non-profit organization
experience with an emphasis on program development,
implementation, and management. She is currently serving as a
Bridgebuilder consultant for the Minneapolis Area Synod, a
structured process for helping congregations in times of
transition and tension.
Kris was
consecrated as a diaconal minister in April 2000. She holds an
M.A. in theology from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago
and a B.S. in psychology from California Coast University. Kris
lives in Eden Prairie with her husband of 39 years, Alan Perry.
They have two married children and four grandchildren.
Sara
Masters, Director of Communications
Minneapolis Area Synod, ELCA
Sara is the
Director of Communications for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the
ELCA, the largest synod of the ELCA with 170 congregations. As
the Director of Communications, she manages the synod's internal
and external communications, including, public relations and
bishop communications. Prior to the synod, she was at RSM
McGladrey as a Web Content Specialist in National Marketing;
Communications Manager at Colonial Church of Edina; and she
spent nine years at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in many
different communications roles. She has 10 years experience in
the Communications industry.
She grew up in
Minneapolis and attended Augsburg College where she studied
mathematics. She also has her master’s degree in leadership from
the same college.
Sara is Vice
President of Minnesota Women in Marketing and Communications and
will be President in June of 2008.
